Lady Sniper lands LR Gosford Guineas

Snippetson’s stakes-winner count moved into double figures when Lady Sniper landed the LR Gosford Guineas (1200m) on Thursday.

The Bjorn Baker-trained filly settled in the back-half of the field and then powered through a gap in the straight to comfortably account for Kimberley Star (Star Witness) and Chetwood (Exceed And Excel).

“Some of her gallops at home have been phenomenal,” Baker said.  “She’s putting together a very good record and we have plenty of options going forward.”

Lady Sniper is the 10th stakes winner for Scenic Lodge stallion Snippetson.  Her best pay-day before the Gosford black-type was in the $250,000 Inglis Sprint (1100m) at Randwick in December.

A $20,000 buy at the 2014 Inglis Classic Summer Sale for Boomer Bloodstock’s Craig Rounesfell, she has earned over $306,000 with more autumn assignments ahead.   Her dam Lady Titus (Arena) is a half-sister to the Mister C stakes winners Misty Dawn & Easy Landing.

Baker will nominate Lady Sniper for the G3 P J Bell Stakes or G2 Arrowfield Sprint during The Championships at Randwick.  The $400,000 Scone Guineas in May is a longer-term goal.

Vergara is another stakes winning daughter of the Scenic Lodge stallion and she is also heading for The Championships after last-start victory in the G3 Epona Stakes at Rosehill.

Snippetson has sired the winners of over $2.21 million this season and is second on the WA table behind Scenic Lodge champion Blackfriars ($3.45 million).  His next stakes success could come as early as Easter Saturday with Snippets Land in the G3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) at Rosehill.
