Kiwi classic candidate by Reset

Darley sire Reset has another classic candidate coming through the ranks in New Zealand.  His Matamata based gelding Yourein will be set for the G1 NZ Derby in March after winning the LR Mad Butcher Championship Stakes Prelude (2100m) at Ellerslie on Sunday.

Yourein (3g Reset – It’s You by Celtic Swing) was untroubled to score a 2.5 lengths at his first test further than a mile.  He is trained by John Sargent for a partnership that includes Sir Patrick Hogan and Peter Walker.

“Yourein is a nice staying type,” Walker said.   “He won very well on the weekend and it looks like he’s going to give us another chance in the Derby.”

Reset (Zabeel) claimed the 2008 G1 Victoria Derby with Rebel Raider in his first Australian crop.  He has also sired this season’s G2 winners Avienus (MVRC W H Stocks St), Well Rounded (VRC Matriarch St) and Set For Fame (MRC Caulfield Sprint).

Yourein was bred by Damien Flower and originally made $44,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions National Foals Sale for Amarina Farm.  Kiwi pin-hooker Paul Beamish then sold him for $140,000.at the 2009 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale through the Wellfield Stud draft.

Yourein is from a half-sister to stakes performers Honest Politician (Distorted Humor), Pacino (Bianconi) and Ipioga (Niello) who have all won at 2000m and further.
