King’s Contract for Coolmore Stud Stakes

David and Jenny Moodie celebrated one their most successful seasons in 2014-15 and they were back in black-type at Flemington on Saturday.

The Contract Racing owners won the G2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) with Kinglike who by Danehill’s champion sire son Exceed And Excel.  The Peter Moody trained colt was racing first-up since a Moonee Valley victory in May and, despite a noticeable drift in betting, descended from midfield to score by over a length.

Kinglike (3c Exceed And Excel – Royal Glow by King’s Best) is from a half-sister to Contract Racing stakes winners Nediym’s Glow (G3 VRC TBV Stakes) and Red Colossus (G3 MRC Victoria Hcp).

“He’s got amazing ability and does it with so much ease,” winning jockey Glen Boss said.  “He’s still maturing but has so much power already.  He’s pulled up like he hasn’t gone around.”

Contract Racing topped the 2014-15 VOBIS leader-board with incentives worth $359,900.  “Every breeder wants a colt like Kinglike,” David Moodie said on Saturday.  “He’s a stallion prospect now and will be a better horse for the Coolmore in six weeks.”

“For the past six weeks he’s done extraordinary things on the track.  Potentially he could be the best horse I’ve raced, better than Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily.”

The G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 31 is a stallion-making race having been won by Brazen Beau, Zoustar, Sepoy, Star Witness and Northern Meteor since 2008.
