Kidnapped stallion dies in Italy

Famous kidnap victim Martino Alonso has died in Italy. The 18 year-old son of Marju broke a leg in a paddock accident at Azienda Agricola Antezzate.

Martino Alonso (Marju – Cheerful Note by Cure The Blues) made headlines in November 2009 when he was stolen from Siba Stud in Brescia. Kidnapping is a part of Italian life but, as far as horses were concerned, it had mainly involved the harness industry.

The following May he was found wandering loose on government land near Naples, 400km from where he went missing.

Martino Alonso (Ire) sired 2006 Premio Vittorio di Capua winner Ramonti in his first crop. Ramonti was then purchased by Godolphin to add G1 victories in the Queen Anne Stakes, Sussex Stakes and Hong Kong Cup.
