Keltrice put down at Rangal Park

Keltrice was put down at Rangal Park on Wednesday.  The 22 year-old stallion had been based at Eric Buttler’s Euroa stud since 1995 and had enjoyed good health until recently.

Keltrice (Kenmare – Vain Display by Vain) defeated champion sprinter Schillaci in the 1994 G1 Lightning Stakes and was retired after an unplaced run in the 1995 G1 Newmarket Hcp won by All Our Mob.

Rangal Park homebred Northeast Sheila kick-started his stud career with a six length victory in the LR Maribyrnong Trial at Flemington in October 1998.  She also won the Fillies division of the 1999 G3 Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield.

Northeast Sheila retired to Euroa and foaled Jacqueline Rouge (LR Qld Tatt’s Mile) to Rangal sire Ne Coupez Pas.  Another of her daughters – Snitzel mare Sheila’s Star – will start in the LR Super Saturday Stakes at Flemington this Saturday.

Ketrice can also play a hand in the G1 Newmarket at headquarters this Saturday.  Star Queensland sprinter Better Than Ready is from a daughter of Ketrice mare Sally Magic.

Keltrice has sired 330 winners of 1062 races at a 68% strike-rate.  He will be buried at Rangal Park alongside Group 1 racehorse and sire Palace Music.
