Oratorio (Aus) has a late addition to his list of hopefuls for the $500,000 Ausdrill Karrakatta Plate (1200m) at Ascot on April 6.
The Mungrup Stud champion won the Group 2 with Gold Rocks (2009) and Motion Pictures (2010) and there could be a third with Hennessy Raider. He powered home to defeat highly rated filly Yaloginda by over a length on debut in the Quality Lucerne & Chaff Hcp (1000m) at Pinjarra on March 20.
Oratorio needed a shot-in-the-arm for the Karrakatta after Moet Me’s withdrawal and the last-start losses of Princess Hallowell and Coruscation. “He had been keeping up with Petrol Power at track work,” trainer Jim Taylor said. “We will start him again at Ascot next Saturday to try and qualify for the Karrakatta.”
Hennessy Raider (2g Oratorio – Hennessy Babe by Hennessy) is prepared by Taylor for a syndicate managed by his wife Tina. The other owners include Fred Fairthorne jnr who was among the partners in Scenic Blast and Scenic Shot.
Hennessy Raider was bred by Lex Piper and Kim Sears and they sold him through the Toreby Park draft for $85,000 at the 2012 Perth Magic Millions. His dam Hennessy Babe delivered an Oratorio colt in September and is back in foal to him.
Oratorio brought up a double at Pinjarra with Wizards Point in the Chaffcity Hcp (1200m). Now a stablemate of Bunbury Cup winner Destroy, the six year-old returned from the wilderness for just his third win in 33 starts.
Wizards Point was a top-tier two year-old winning at Ascot and running second in the 2009 LR Supremacy Stakes. Oratorio got him from 2003 Perth Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Rose Of Thunder.
