Kaphero filly sizzles at Ascot

Speed machine You Will Be Queen has returned to racing with a sizzling victory in the Westspeed Hcp (1000m) at Ascot.

The Kaphero filly was in a race of her own first-up after a long spell on Wednesday.  She free-wheeled in front and won eased down by over two lengths in a performance that pleased trainer Lindsey Smith.

“She’s had a few hiccups,” Smith revealed.  “But we’ve always rated her a Saturday horse.”

You Will Be Queen (3f Kaphero – Noble Glow by Jeune) was racing for just the second time after being sidelined since last December.  She had finished a fading fourth on debut behind Danny Rip, Moet Me and Thateldo and they franked the form out of that race time and time again.

“We brought her back into work but she quartered a hoof in a trial and that required some time off,” Smith said.  “Then, last time in, she got her mouth caught in the chain and pulled a tooth and cut her mouth.

“She also tended to run through the bridle and Stephen Miller has been teaching her to settle.  We’ve been patient and hopefully she can go on with it now.”

You Will Be Queen was a $57,500 buy for owner Chris Wells at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.  Her dam Noble Glow won five races in Melbourne and Adelaide and she has since foaled two more Kaphero fillies and is due any day now to Host at Swettenham Stud.

Kaphero (Danzero) stands for $6,600 (inc gst) at Swettenham Stud and his second crop of yearlings averaged 10 times that service fee during Session 1 of the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale in March.
