Trainer David Harrison praised Jestpatim at Belmont on Saturday and he also predicted a bright future at stud for the gelding’s sire Patronize.
Jestpatim (3g Patronize – Jestceny by Real Jester) looked a black-type winner in waiting following a brilliant first-up display in the Westspeed 3YO Hcp (1000). He sat outside the leader Culprit and then found plenty clocking 33.82s for the final 600m which was the fastest sectional of the meeting.
“He will only get better as his fitness improves,” Harrison said. “That was a hot race and handled them nicely. He is so relaxed and the WA Guineas could be a plan.”
The G2 WA Guineas (1600m) will be run at Ascot on November 24. “Jestpatim will have another run before a break and then we will get him ready for the Belgravia Stakes,” Harrison said. “I’m a big rap his sire Patronize. He has a future as a stallion.”
Patronize (Redoute’s Choice) is a three-quarter brother to Exceed And Excel and stands at Darling View Thoroughbreds for a $5,500 (inc gst) service fee.
Jestpatim is a homebred for Clive Atwell. He had won at Ascot earlier this year prior a head second to El Rijes in the LR Perth Stakes in March.
Atwell operates Darling View and he also raced the winner’s dam Jestceny to a victory at Ascot at her only start in December 2006. The mare has foaled fillies by Patronize for the last two years at Darling View.
