Invincible Spirit tops Tattersalls Guineas Sale

Former Chatswood Stud shuttler Invincible Spirit topped the Tattersalls Guineas 2YO Sale in Newmarket on Friday when his colt from Mangaree Mary (Seeking the Gold) made 220,000gns (AUD 380,645).  The colt is a brother to 2006 Ripon Champion 2YO Trophy winner Stevie Gee.

William Slattery’s Meadowview Stables of Ireland consigned the sale-topper.  Slattery had purchased him for $69,946 (AUD 90,460) at the 2009 Goffs yearling sale in Ireland.

Agent Dick O’Gorman, who acts for Sheikh Mohammed, was the successful bidder.  He also purchased an Invincible Spirit – Virgin Hawk colt that was second on the leader board at 100,000gns (AUD 173,020).  The latter is a half brother to 2008 Fenwolf Stakes winner Metaphoric (Montjeu).  He was also a significant mark-up after being pin-hooked for $67,188 (AUD 86,890) at Goffs last September.

The Tattersalls Guineas average was down 32% to 25,898 gns (AUD 43,170).  The clearance rate was down 4 points to 61%.  “We were delighted to be able to accommodate the Invincible Spirit colt that was originally scheduled to sell at our Craven Sale two weeks ago,” Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said.  “He was always a colt of real quality and it was great to see his vendor rewarded with the top price.”
