Champion stallion Hussonet has died of a stroke at Cornerstone Stud in South Australia.
The 25 year-old was a multiple champion sire in Chile and was imported to Australia by Arrowfield Stud in 2003. He made an immediate impact siring Horse of the Year Weekend Hussler from his first crop in the Hunter Valley.
His other Group 1 winners bred here were Eagle Falls (Oakleigh Plate), Glorious Days (Hong Kong Mile), Gold Trail (NZ Railway Stakes) and Reaan (Blue Diamond Stakes).
Hussonet’s sire sons based in Australia included the South American bred stallions Byblos, El Cumbres, Host, Husson and Trotamondo plus the locally bred bulls Husson Lightning, Reann and Rios (NZ).
Hussonet was transferred from Arrowfield to Cornerstone Stud in South Australia five years ago. “Whilst he has lived to a great age, it is always difficult saying goodbye to a legend,” a statement from the stud said. “He was so dear to all our hearts here at Cornerstone.”
