A Monsieur Bond sister to top-class sprinter Hoof It headlined a strong opening session of the Doncaster Bloodstock Premier yearling sale on Wednesday.
Agent Dwayne Woods paid 147,000 pounds for the filly after fighting off Stuart Boman of Blandford Bloodstock. Hoof It is owned by golf pro Lee Westwood and has won three of his five starts this term including the time-honoured Stewards Cup at Goodwood lumping 63.5kg.
Owner-breeder Reg Bond is likely to retain a share in the filly. She is also a sister to G3 winner Ladies Are Forever. The session –topper is out of Forever Bond, an unraced daughter of Danetime who was purchased by Bond at the Doncaster Sale in 2001.
In-form stallion Acclamation was also popular with three yearlings on the Top 10 leader-board. His colt from Keriyka was the second most expensive lot on Day 1 at Doncaster selling for 105,000 pounds to McKeever Bloodstock.
His dam is a half-sister to 2008 Queensland Cup winner Kerdem (Rainbow Quest) who is now making an impact over the jumps in Victoria.
Acclamation also had a filly and colt sell for 70,000 pounds. The filly out of Bandanna was purchased by Jane Allison Bloodstock. The dam was G3 placed in the Princess Margaret Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The Acclamation colt from Fathoming (Gulch) was bought by Peter Doyle Bloodstock. His second dam Ocean Ridge (Storm Bird) was a G2 winner of the Prix Robert Papin.
Doyle also weighed in with 66,000 pounds for a colt by Acclamation’s leading first-season sire son Dark Angel. Offered by Yeomanstown Stud, he is a half-brother to three winners including the Goodwood stakes performer Destinate (Desert Style).
Turnover for Day 1 reached 5.33 million pounds at an average of 27,924 pounds which was up marginally from the 2010 figures. The clearance rate was 85%.
‘We are very satisfied with a very solid day’s trade,” Doncaster managing director Henry Beeby said. “The improved clearance rate is especially gratifying given the current climate and there is every reason to believe that there is more of the same on Thursday.”
