Exciting Lyndhurst Stud stallion Hidden Dragon sired his first stakes winner when Hollowlea scored a convincing victory in the Listed Henry Bucks Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Hidden Dragon has been represented by 14 individual winners from his first crop to date including the stakes placegetters Obsidian Dragon (Adelaide) and Steel Dragon (Brisbane).
Hollowlea (3g Hidden Dragon-Cabaret Girl by Scenic) is prepared at Stawell by the father – daughter training team of Terry and Karina O’Sullivan. “This horse has never done a thing wrong,” Terry O’Sullivan said. “You would like to think he will get further than 1400m so the Caulfield Guineas is an obvious goal.”
O’Sullivan will give the gelding his next hit-out in the G2 Bill Stutt Stakes at Moonee Valley on September 24.
Hollowlea is another bargain stakes winner purchased from the Magic Millions by Kingsley Peach. He parted with $36,000 for the youngster at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale.
Hollowlea is a half-brother to the Made of Gold mare Dance Girl Dance who has won 7 races and been twice stakes placed in Brisbane. Their dam is a full sister to Caulfield stakes winner Panorama Heights.
Hidden Dragon is represented by five lots at the Magic Millions 2YO HIT Sale in October. He topped Day 2 at last year’s HIT Sale when Singapore trainer Don Baertschiger paid $110,000 for his colt from Donnatelle.
Hidden Dragon (Danehill) raced in Hong Kong and had the distinction of running Silent Witness to less than a length when finishing runner-up to the champion during his 17 race winning streak. From just 17 starts, Hidden Dragon secured 6 wins from 1000m – 1400m including the G3 Chinese Challenge Cup.
He stands at Lyndhurst for a $13,200 service fee.
