High Chaparral highlights at Karaka

With High Chaparral’s sons and daughters running red hot, his 28 colts and fillies will play a significant role at the 2013 NZ Bloodstock National yearling sale starting on Monday.

The High Chaparral cross with New Zealand mares during his five seasons at Windsor Park produced the likes of global sensation So You Think (NZ) and this season’s G1 Spring Champion Stakes winner (It’s A) Dundeel (NZ).

High Chaparral’s sale ring prominence has been apparent for a few years now.  Karaka 2011 kicked off with a bang when a High Chaparral colt from Sir Tristram mare Queen Caelia was purchased by Surf Coast Racing from Windsor Park Stud for $600,000.

That colt is now called High Shot (NZ) and his debut at Cranbourne in October was simply exceptional.  Windsor Park will offer a brother to High Shot as Lot 303.

High Chaparral is now based at Coolmore Australia and his Karaka yearlings were also in demand last year with 57 lots selling for an average of $181,000.

Karaka 2013 will once again open with a yearling by High Chaparral at Lot 1 – the filly from the Zabeel mare Abeel Hostess.  She is one of 8 High Chaparral yearlings in the Sale from Zabeel mares that also include:

Lot 97:  Volt from the family of Mosheen and Might and Power
Lot 282:  Half-brother to current Group winners Dolmabache and Pure Elegance

Other High Chaparral yearlings to be offered at Karaka 2013 include:

High Chaparral is one of a number of Australian based sires with progeny on offer in next week’s Sales Series.  Others include Commands, Encosta de Lago, Exceed and Excel, Fastnet Rock, Flying Spur, Not a Single Doubt, Redoute’s Choice, Snitzel, Starcraft, Stratum, Street Cry and young sires Big Brown, Denman, Duporth, Northern Meteor and Street Sense.

Fellow Coolmore sire Fastnet Rock is the hottest stallion in this part of the world and there are 15 of his yearlings at Karaka 2013 including:

Lot 252:  Half-brother to the G1 HKJC Champions & Chater Cup winner Liberator from the stakes winning mare Miss Helga (Alzao).

The 2013 Karaka Premier Sale will also include four yearlings by champion sire Redoute’s Choice including:

Lot 56:  Colt from the G1 winning Stravinsky mare Captivate – a descendant of the acclaimed Soliloquy family.  Stravinsky has made a great start as a dam-sire with his daughters producing the likes of G1 winners Mosheen, Rip Van Winkle and Pataques.
Lot 307:  Colt from Rationalize (Marju) who is a half-sister to VRC Derby winner Amalfi from the family of Group winners Gold Onyx, Vigor, Antonio Lombardo and Sea Lord.
Lot 414:  Three-quarter sister to this season’s Listed Wentwood Grange Stakes winning 2YO Catalonia (Commands) who will contest Sunday’s Karaka Million.  The filly is from the G3 winning Red Ransom mare Valpolicella.
