New Zealand Derby winner Habibi (NZ) has been sold to American interests.
In a deal brokered by Denny Boltinghouse and Phil Cataldo, the Group 1 winning filly will continue her racing career in America under the ownership of George Strawbridge. Her New Plymouth based breeders Peter and Heather Crofskey will retain a minority share.
Habibi (3f Ekraar – Danny Holiday by Danasinga) finished fourth in Saturday’s G1 Australian Oaks and will be aimed at the Breeders’ Cup in November for which she is likely to be prepared by Graham Motion.
Her dam Danny Holiday has a yearling filly from the first crop of Thewayyouare. Second dam Ballamanda (Lord Ballina) is an unraced sister to Mirror Magic (G1 Perth Cup & G1 WA Derby).
Her sire Ekraar (Red Ransom) is stationed at Linwood Park after initially shuttling from Italy to Stoney Bridge Stud under the ownership of Shadwell Farm.
