Mossman galloper Number One Gun is turning out to be a consistent money-spinner for his connections after another smart win at Wyong on Tuesday.
Number One Gun was an $85,000 purchase for Champion Thoroughbreds from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2010 Magic Millions National yearling sale. The latest victory boosted his record to 4 wins from 9 starts with prizemoney in excess of $162,000.
Prepared by John O’Shea, Number One Gun was backing up after a similar front-running result at the metropolitan meeting at Gosford last Wednesday. “He tends to appreciate it when he can get to the front and it paid dividends again today,” O’Shea said. “When he led a few lengths I knew he would keep going.
“He’s a good doer and is very fit. I always thought he would be capable of backing up when the right race presented itself.”
Number One Gun (3g Mossman – Graphite Lass by Unbridled’s Song) is a younger half-brother to the winners Nashita (Spinning World) and Aggie Grey (Agnes World).
Their dam Graphite Lass only raced twice for trainer Bill Mitchell winning at Bendigo on debut in November 2000 before finishing third in the LR Merson-Cooper Stakes at Sandown. She has a weanling colt by Yarraman sire I Am Invincible and is due to foal to Magic Albert later this year.
Vinery sire Mossman has been represented by 86 winners of 145 races in Australia this season topped by the stakes winners Love Conquers All, Ofcourseican, Backbone, Buffering, Neeson, Second Effort, The Travelling Man and Under The Eiffel.
