Group 3 double by Redoute’s Choice

Arrowfield champion Redoute’s Choice sired a Group 3 double with a pair of promising three year-olds at Flemington on Saturday.

Alzora and Sheer Talent have plenty in common apart from their champion sire.  Both were sold at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions, both feature Sadler’s Wells on the distaff side of their pedigrees and both are heading towards Group 1 classics.

Alzora (3f Redoute’s Choice – Bruce Canyon by Gulch) claimed the G3 VRC Vanity Stakes (1400m) first-up for her Dorrington Farm owners Rob and Yvonne Crabtree.  She had won the LR Ethereal Stakes on Caulfield Cup day prior to running fifth in Dear Demi’s VRC Oaks in November.

“It is a juggling act with a stayer in a sprint,” trainer David Hayes.  “We had her fresh and maybe too fresh. I thought her run might have ended at the 50 metres but to her credit she was tough and hung in there and picked up a bit more valuable black type.

“She has always worked really well.  It took her a long time to break maiden status but she did it in a stakes race.  I am hoping she can develop into an Australasian Oaks filly.”

Alzora was purchased from Emirates Park for $115,000 at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  Her dam Bruce Canyon is out of Yorkshire Oaks runner-up Bineyah (Sadler’s Wells) from the family of Seattle Slew and Lomond.

Sheer Talent put himself on the Australian Guineas radar with victory in the G3 C S Hayes Stakes (1400m).  He defeated Force Command by three-quarters of a length with Hosting half a head away third.

“I will make up my mind in another week or so about a start in the Guineas,” Mark Kavanagh said.  “I’ve never done too much with him.  And if you look at him closely, there’s a little bit more improvement to come, in fact, he just keeps improving every time he goes out.”

Sheer Talent (3c Redoute’s Choice – St Katherine by Barathea) is raced by Gerry Harvey after graduating through the Baramul Stud consignment for $350,000 at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

He is the 98th stakes winner by Redoute’s Choice and his dam St Katherine is by a Sadler’s Wells sire from the family of champion broodmare Eight Carat.

St Katherine’s other foals include G3 winners Kittens (Redoute’s Choice) and Saint Encosta (Encosta de Lago).  She has a 2yo Redoute’s Choice filly named Limehouse in training with Pat Webster at Randwick.

Redoute’s Choice completed Lightning Stakes day at Flemington with a treble courtesy of Niconoise in the Swisse Wellness Trophy (1700m).  His dam Nicola Lass is a daughter of Sadler’s Wells sire Scenic and her earlier foals include Group 1 winners Niconero and Nicconi.  The latter won the 2010 Lightning Stakes at Flemington.

Redoute’s Choice has just begun serving a northern hemisphere book at The Aga Khan’s Haras de Bonneval in France.
