Greta West gun at Geelong

Master Of Design sealed Victorian second-season honours in the wins category when Deal Master was successful at Geelong on Friday.

The Team Corstens-trained 3yo sprinter was given a gun run to land the Elephant And Castle Hcp (1300m).  “He travelled nicely and really hit the line,” apprentice Brooke Sweeney claimed.  “It’s great to win for the stable, they have been great supporters this season.”

Master Of Design captured the Victorian premiership with 36 wins from Helmet (34), Moshe (32), Toorak Toff (25) and Ilovethiscity (22).

The Greta West Stud resident finished third on the prizemoney table – Helmet ($1.61m) won from Moshe ($1.09m) & Master Of Design ($909k).

Deal Master was backed from $14 into $9 at Geelong.  “Brooke did a terrific job to sum things up early and settle one-out and one-back,” Troy Corstens said.  “It looked a little hairy when the leader kicked but he knuckled down and won with plenty of gusto.”

It was Deal Master’s second victory in a handful of starts following a Pakenham maiden earlier this season.  He is raced by a syndicate of close friends managed by former Essendon Mazda Dealer Principal Joe Cucuzza who was on track to welcome the gelding back to scale.

Deal Master was bred by Euan & Jenny White from their Wangaratta winner Pimento (Royal Academy) and the mare has a new-season yearling filly by Master Of Design.

Greta West Stud stands Master Of Design (Redoute’s Choice) for a $5,500 service fee.
