Raheen Stud has loaded the Gold Coast Magic Millions March Sale with 17 yearlings by its young gun Golden Archer.
The Raheen consignment coming down from the Darling Downs also includes yearlings by Written Tycoon, Shamus Award, Snippetson, Love Conquers All & Epaulette.
Golden Archer sired his first winner when Lady Lark landed the Hamilton Hotel Maiden (1200) at Eagle Farm in January. The Desleigh Forster trained filly was catalogued for last year’s March Sale but didn’t reach a $25,000 reserve.
“We leased her to Desleigh and she earned $23,000 in prizemoney and QTIS bonuses first-up,” Raheen’s Basil Nolan jnr said. “It was a great start to get a January winner in his first crop and there are plenty more in the pipeline.
“Trainers like Gillian Heinrich (Triple Arrow), David Kelly (Pins For Arrows), John Zielke (Royal Myth) and Chris Munce are all happy with the Golden Archers they bought last year.”
Zielke thought he had cut the ribbons for Golden Archer when Royal Myth scored a front-running victory at Rockhampton in November. However, the result was reversed by stewards in favour of Paradis Imperial who is still unbeaten after five starts.
Golden Archer had 14 yearlings average $38,000 at the 2016 March Sale off a $6,600 (inc gst) service fee. “He’s an exciting young stallion and there were 57 foals in his first crop and that increased to 81 from his second book,” Nolan added. “He’s an outstanding individual and he’s stamping them in the same mould.”
Among the Golden Archers at the March Sale is the filly from Nepro (Lot 174) who has received more updates since the catalogue was printed. Her Singapore based half-brother Happy Saga (Real Saga) won for the 7th time at Kranj in February shortly after another half-brother Rodanos (Captain Sonador) started his career with wins at Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba.
