Athena Fire has returned to racing with another narrow victory in the Home Turn Corporate Experience Hcp (1200m) at Ipswich.
The God’s Own mare has won 3 of her last 4 starts and none of them have been by bigger margins than a head. Jumping from an outside gate on Wednesday, she travelled wide under Tim Bell but was full of running in the straight to win in a blanket finish from Feels Like Home (More Than Ready) and Get On (Court Of Jewels).
Athena Fire (5m God’s Own – Opal Fire by Hurricane Sky) is trained by Matthew Dunn for owner-breeder Dennis Coffey and is from an unraced sister to Caulfield Group 1 winner Desert Sky (C F Orr Stakes & Futurity Stakes).
She won a Hobart maiden as a late-season three year-old before transferring from Brendan McShane to Dunn last year.
God’s Own stands at Greta West Stud and Athena Fire is one of 60 individual winners this season. They have won a total of 85 races and $1.94 million in prizemoney.
