Go Racing heading to Karaka Million

The fight for a prized start in the $1 million Karaka Million (RL) is heating up after a number of horses cemented their places on the Order of Entry over the Xmas-New Year holiday.

Several new names also appear and the latest – based on prizemoney earned – is Saturday’s Woodville winner Charlestown.  He was very impressive in the Crowley Forge Master Farriers Juvenile (1100m) and the three length victory increased his earnings to $7,125.

Charlestown was bred by NZ Thoroughbred Holdings Ltd and was purchased by Go Racing from Westbury Stud at the Karaka Select Sale for $65,000.  Westbury will offer a half-brother to Charlestown by its resident sire Swiss Ace at the 2013 Select Sale at Lot 872.

Charlestown (Myboycharlie) is trained by Lisa Latta and is the second horse for the Go Racing Syndicate heading towards Ellerslie.  They also race stakes winning filly Ruud Awakening (Bernardini) who currently holds second place with $42,500.  G3 Eclipse Stakes winner Gobi Ranger (Tale of the Cat) currently heads the Order of Entry with $49,550 in stakes.

There are now just seven two-year-old races left in New Zealand before the $1 million Karaka Million which will be held at Ellerslie at the Karaka Million Twilight Meeting on Sunday, January 27.
