More Than Ready’s South African Group 1 winner Gimmethegreenlight (Aus) has topped the first-season leader-board at the Cape Premier yearling sale.

The South African market is usually cautious about freshman stallions but Gimmethegreenlight was embraced by buyers last week.  The 14 lots that change hands totalled R4.45 million.

Most expensive among his initial crop was a the filly from G1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship winner Silver Arc (Silvino).  She was purchased by leading owner Markus Jooste for R900,000.

Next best was the filly out of Irish bred mare District Six (Mujadil).  She was bought for R500,000 by Ken And Jane Truter who are clients of Gimmethegreenlight’s trainer Justin Snaith.

District Six won at Sligo for Dermot Weld and Gimmethegreenlight’s owner Hassen Adam before transferring to South Africa where she has already thrown Kenilworth winner Six of the Best (Jet Master).

Rocket Man’s owner Alf Crabbia also weighed in with R425,000 for the colt from La Vida Bella.  The (Arg) bred mare is a half-sister to the dam of G1 Scottsville Golden Horse Sprint winner Normanz.

Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready – Yes She Can Cancan by Canny Lad) was sold by Vinery as a foal for $155,000 at 2009 Magic Millions National Sale and the highlight of his career was a Group 1 victory in the Queen’s Plate.

He is based at Varsfontein Stud with Kenilworth Group 2 winner Master Of My Fate who also has a family link with More Than Ready.

Master Of My Fate (Jet Master ) is from a half-sister to the dam of More Than Ready’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Pluck who stands alongside his sire at Vinery.
