GeeGee colt by Americain

Leading Tasmanian broodmare La Quita has foaled an Americain colt for her owners Paul and Elizabeth Geard.

The Geards own GeeGee Stud at Broadmarsh in Tasmania.

La Quita (Grand Lodge) has been named Tasmania’s Broodmare of the Year three times thanks to her top-class stayer Geegees Blackflash who has won 19 races including the 2010 Tasmanian Derby, 2011 Newmarket Hcp, 2012 Hobart Cup and 2013 Launceston Cup.

“My children asked what I would like for Father’s Day,” Geard recalled.  “I just told them I’ve already got the best present possible and that’s this colt by Americain.”

Geard has long had a dream to breed his own stallion to stand at GeeGee Stud.  To that end, he sent his best mare to the Melbourne Cup winner who shuttles between Swettenham Stud and Calumet Farm in Kentucky

La Quita is also the dam of Gee Gee’s La Quita (2012 Tasmanian Thousand Guineas & James Boags Golden Mile) and Geegees Velvet (2013 3YO Vase).

Americain covered 155 mares in his first southern book at Swettenham last year and he’s popular again with breeders at a $13,750 (inc gst) service fee.
