Frankel’s first foal arrives in Ireland

The first foal by Frankel, a colt out of stakes winning mare Chrysanthemum, has been born at Coolmore Stud in Ireland.

“From the reports that I have received, Frankel’s first foal is everything we could have hoped for,” Juddmonte Farms general manager Philip Mitchell said.  “He’s a handsome colt with a good head, a white blaze and great presence.

“These are very exciting times for everyone who has supported the horse and we much look forward to the rest of his first crop of foals.”

Frankel (Galileo) entered stud last year at Juddmonte’s Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket following the conclusion of a racing career that saw him win all 14 starts.

His first foal’s dam Chrysanthemum (Danehill Dancer) captured the G3 Weld Park Stakes and G3 Park Express Stakes.

Frankel’s star-studded first book included Group 1 winners Lahudood, Stacelita, Zagora, Divine Proportions, Ramruma, Sariska, Finsceal Beo, Vodka, Danedream, Dar Re Mi, Heat Haze, Midday and Balance.

He covered 133 mares in his first season, of whom 126 were confirmed in foal.  He also served a select group of mares including More Joyous to southern hemisphere time.

Bookmakers have quoted Frankel’s first foal at 5-2 to emulate his sire and win on debut.   He also earned a 66-1 quote to win the 2017 English Derby!
