Frankel has been elevated to a clear-cut lead on top of global rankings after his awesome victory in the G1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.
Frankel has been awarded an international rating of 135. His five-length victory over the recently-retired Canford Cliffs marks him out as the best miler since the world rankings began in 2004.
Frankel (135) is now well clear of Australian sprinter Black Caviar (130) on the World Thoroughbred Rankings (WTR) published by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) on Friday.
The ratings take into account performances from February 1 until July 31.
Frankel and Black Caviar had been equal on 130 in the previous list. Frankel got that rating for his spectacular English 2000 Guineas victory while Black Caviar was awarded the same figure for her victory in the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington in March.
The next edition of the World Thoroughbred Rankings will be released on September 15.
