Foxwedge off the mark in England

Foxwedge sired his first northern hemisphere winner just hours after Newgate Stud announced its southern service fees for 2016.

His filly Seafront won the Minster Novice Stakes (1000m) at Beverley by three-quarters of a length from Clem Fandango (Elzaam).  She started a short-price favourite off an encouraging debut at Newmarket last week.

Purchased by Saeed Manana for 18,000gns (AUD 40,300) at the 2015 Tattersalls October Sale, she is the latest of 8 winners from Wolfhound mare Locharia.

Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock) covered over 250 mares in his first three northern books at Whitsbury Manor Stud in England.  Already the sire of five first-crop winners in Australia and NZ, he’s having a year off from shuttling in 2016 and will stand at $22,000 (inc gst) later this year in the Hunter Valley.

Newgate Farm is set to stand 8 stallions with Criterion the latest addition after a career that garnered $7 million in prizemoney.  He heads the roster from fellow Sebring superstar Dissident who met with instant approval last spring covering 196 mares in his debut season.

His first foals are eagerly awaited as are those by fellow young guns Wandjina and Deep Field while The Factor (USA), Eurozone and Sizzling will cover their third books at Newgate.
