Young trainer Jason Miller believes boom Trade Fair five-year-old Fair Hunter is still a year away from his best.
Fair Hunter, the staying find of the Belmont Park season, made it four straight wins when successful in the Westspeed Stayers’ Hcp (2000m) on Saturday.
“Normally stayers start to taper off a bit after three or four runs,” said Miller. “But he’s gone the other way. He’s not only holding his condition he’s getting bigger, stronger and better.
“He will have another run over 2100m in a fortnight then we will make a decision on his future. It will be either a let-up and a tilt at the Perth Cup or a longer break and a crack at the Pinjarra and Bunbury Cups.
“I know it sounds silly but I do think he is still a year away from his best so I’m leaning towards the provincial features next autumn. I want to do the right thing by the horse.”
Fair Hunter (5g Trade Fair – Orion Star by Spinning World) started his winning run in the Playeronline Hcp (2000m) in June then took the Westspeed Stayers’ Bonus Hcp (2100m) and D&W Electrical Suppliers Hcp (2200m) in July.
The win capped a great week for Trade Fair who stands for a $4,950 (inc gst) fee at Alwyn Park. He topped the ‘ton’ of individual winners with Bopping Blonde (Pinjarra) and Must Be Me (Chepstow) on Thursday.
