Foreplay flyer wins G3 Bauhinia Sprint

Hong Kong galloper Rad is the 4th stakes winner by Foreplay after a brilliant victory in the G3 Bauhinia Sprint (1000m) on Tuesday.

The David Hall trained gelding took the lead down the straight-course at Sha Tin and ran out a convincing winner clocking 55.78s.  “It’s great to have a horse with so much potential back in form,” Hall said after the first-up victory.  “There was a bit of a boom on him early on but we were behind the eight-ball before he bounced back tonight.”

Rad (5g Foreplay – Homegrown by Snippets) was unbeaten after three starts in Hong Kong before pulling up with muscle soreness and heart strain after two unplaced runs late last year.  “We just wanted to get him back so I haven’t made any future plans,” Hall added.  “It’s just a relief to see him beat a quality field and run time.”

Foreplay’s latest stakes winner is from Homegrown (Snippets) who won 5 races for the late Max Lees and his wife Vicki.  He is a younger half-brother to minor winners Giles (Magic Albert) and Pink Blooms (Honours List).

Rad was retained to race by the Lees family and won his first two starts at Port Macquarie and Hawkesbury before shipping off-shore in December 2012.

“It’s nice to have him back,” winning jockey Douglas Whyte said.  “It wasn’t easy to get down to 117 pounds (53kg) but the win made it worthwhile.  He led them pretty easily and when they tried to head him off, he was having none of it.”

Foreplay (Danehill) is based at Woodside Park in Victoria and stood for a $6,600 (inc gst) service fee last year.
