Flying filly set for Karrakatta Plate

Western Fever booked her ticket for the G2 Karrakatta Plate after zooming home to win the Magic Millions Perth 2YO Classic (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday.

Western Fever (2f Flying Pegasus – Western Sunset by Honour and Glory) railed up and reeled in the favourite Night War to win by over a length running away.  The David Harrison filly earned a start in the $250,000 event after a last-start victory at Pinjarra.

“She did a few things wrong but still won well and it could have been further,” Harrison said.  “Being covered up was great and, once the run appeared, she sprinted through.  I don’t like giving two-year-olds too many runs in their first prep but it’s only a month to the Karrakatta.”

The G2 $500,000 Karrakatta Plate will be run at Ascot over 1200 metres on March 19.

Western Fever was a $26,000 purchase by part owner Ryan Fuller from the draft of Alwyn Park at the 2010 Perth Magic Millions yearling sale.  She is from the first crop of Touchstone Farm based sire Flying Pegasus.  Her dam Western Sunset is a winning daughter of G3 WA Oaks winner Reflected Image.
