First winner by Windsor Park freshman Thewayyouare

Thewayyouare (USA) moved off the mark as a freshman sire when Tomei scored a second-up victory at Churchill Downs on Sunday.

Thewayyouare (Kingmambo) shuttles from Coolmore Stud to Windsor Park in NZ.  His first Kiwi-bred crop sold up to $200,000 at the 2013 NZB Karaka yearling sales.

Tomei (2f Thewayyouare – Teriffany by Fusaichi Pegasus) had finished seventh on debut at Keeneland on April 11.  She stalked the pace under the Twin Spires and pulled clear under Dylan Davis to post a convincing victory over 900m in 52.60s.

A homebred for Joe Pesci and trainer Wesley Ward, she is the first foal from a winning daughter of G1 performer Pesci.

Trained by Andre Fabre, Thewayyouare was ranked France’s Champion 2YO in 2007 following wins in the G1 Criterium International, G3 Prix Thomas Bryon and LR Criterium de Lyon.

He is a half-brother to Champion European 3YO Peeping Fawn from the immediate family of G1 Belmont Stakes winner Rags to Riches and Champion sire Redoute’s Choice.

Thewayyouare entered stud at Coolmore’s North American base at Ashford Stud before moving to its Irish headquarters in 2011.  He stands at Windsor Park for a $7,500 fee.
