First winner for War Pass

Former Widden Stud shuttler War Pass has sired his first winner in the USA.  His colt Java’s War scored over 1600m on turf at Ellis Park in Kentucky on Sunday.

War Pass (Cherokee Run) died within 24 hours of arriving back at Lane’s End Farm from Australia in December 2010.  He served two southern book at Widden.

War Pass was named Champion 2YO Colt in 2007 after G1 victories in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Champagne Stakes.  His first Australia yearlings were popular at the majors this year with six of them making more than $100,000.

Java’s War (2c War Pass – Java by Rainbow Quest) is trained by Ken McPeek for owner-breeder Charles Fipke.  He was racing second-up after a fast-finishing fifth on debut at Churchill Downs on June 15.  His dam Java is a winning sister to champion turf mare Fiji.
