First winner for Niconoise

Gottabiton gave favourite punters no cause for concern while notching the first win for Ponderosa Park sire Niconoise on Wednesday.

Trained locally at Port Lincoln by Simon Drewitt, he cruised past front-runner Bedloe’s Island to score by the best part of four lengths in the DK Quarries Hcp (1000m).  He had firmed into $1.45 following a debut fifth at Gawler on December 23.

Gottabiton (2g Niconoise – Symphorosa by Rock Of Gibraltar) was a $3,000 buy for Drewitt at the 2017 Adelaide Magic Millions.  His dam descends from Irish stakes winner Chinese Justice (Diesis) who was imported to Australia by Coolmore Stud in 1996.

Nathalia-based studmaster Paul Kelly stands Niconoise at Ponderosa Park after a career that included wins at Morphettville (2) and Flemington (2) from 1100m to 1800m.  He’s a half-brother to Widden Stud success Nicconi and is available for a $4,400 (inc gst) service fee.
