First winner for Honalee

South Australian based Honalee opened his account at stud with El Tabar at Grafton on Monday.

The Tamworth trained gelding won the Brisbane Bloodstock Maiden (1410m) second-up for Paul Berrigan.  He had been unplaced in four previous starts for Victorian trainer Matt Laurie.

El Tabar (3g Honalee – Criseyde by Xaar) is the last foal of his dam and was bred by Balnarring based John Ferguson of Kineld Thoroughbreds.  His older half-sisters De Lilly Lightful (Lago Delight) and Spirit Of Kintyre (Mull Of Kintyre) both won at the Victorian provincials.

Honalee (Hurricane Sky) was trained by Mark Kavanagh to a Group 2 victory in the Yallambee Classic in Adelaide and a Group 3 in the Standish Handicap at Flemington.

He retired to Eden Park Stud in 2009 and Ros Mibus stands him for a fee on application.
