First winner for Enemy Of Average

Former Kooringal Stud stallion Enemy Of Average sired his first winner in Singapore on Friday night.

Zeus Thunder (2g Enemy Of Average – One Wink by Perugino) kick started his career in the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Stakes (1100m) at Kranji.  The Theo Kieser trained gelding flew the gates and lengthened in the straight to score by four lengths.

The winner was a $30,000 buy from Riverdene Stud at the 2010 Magic Millions National Sale.  His older half-brother Kaiser (Seidnazar) was Champion 2YO in Singapore last year winning four races including the Aushorse Golden Horseshoe.

“Zeus Thunder had plenty in hand turning for home,” winning jockey K B Soo said.  “When I asked him for an effort, he finished off very well.”

Enemy Of Average (Fusaichi Pegasus) won the LR Walter Brown Stakes at Cheltenham in a short career under David Hayes.  He retired to Eldon Park in 2007 and later stood at Riverdene Stud and at nearby Kooringal before dying of a heart-attack in September 2011.

Enemy Of Average became the third son of USA bred mare Patrona to be credited with a winner.  Patrona arrived in Australia in August 1999 and foaled three colts and filly for Ananda Krishnan before her death in September 2006.

Her first foal Exceed And Excel (Danehill) was a G1 winner of the VRC Newmarket Hcp before retiring to Darley where, 44 stakes winners later, he has sons of own at stud.

Her second colt Patronize (Redoute’s Choice) sired his first winner when Jestpatim was successful at Ascot on February 25.  Less than a week later, Enemy Of Average followed in their hoof-prints at Kranji.

Patrona’s only filly To Be Surprised (Redoute’s Choice) won three races in Sydney.  Like Exceed And Excel, she was raced by Nick Moraitis and later sold to Patinack Farm for $1.30 million at a Magic Millions Sale in August 2008.
