First winner for Atomic

Claremont Thoroughbreds stallion Atomic sired his first winner at Warrnambool on Sunday.

His 3yo filly Costa Bomb broke through at her second start for trainer Darren Weir in the KFC Maiden Plate (1200m).  She had been placed at Yarra Valley on December 29.

Costa Bomb (3f Atomic – Costa Kara by Encosta De Lago) was bred by Greg Daffey who stands her sire at his property in Victoria’s western districts at Gatum.

Atomic (Commands) was trained by Lee Freedman and won the LR Chairman’s Stakes on debut at Sandown Hillside in February 2011.  He went straight into the Blue Diamond Stakes but broke down in the Group 1 won by Sepoy.

Daffy bought him at the 2012 Inglis Great Southern Sale and he’s covered 250 mares in the last five seasons at a $1,650 (inc gst) service fee.
