First winner by Sidereus

Burn Notice ran his rivals into the ground to give Oaklands Stud sire Sidereus his first winner at the Gold Coast on Wednesday.

The Mark Webb trained colt jumped straight to the lead for a three length victory in the Member Of The Year Maiden (900m).  His dam Flammable (Ferocity) is a half-sister to Danehill’s WA stakes performer Matador.

Sidereus (General Nediym) was the centre of unwanted headlines and the subject of a court case during the well-documented split between leviathan owner Nathan Tinkler and trainer Anthony Cummings.

Tinkler bought Sidereus outright for $2.50 million after he won the 2008 Pago Pago Stakes at Rosehill but the horse was later left in limbo while connections clashed over a sale commission and the fact the colt was actually a rig.

He was later sold to a syndicate comprising Oaklands owner Neville Stewart, Eureka Stud and Darlington Stud.  There are 70 live foals in his first crop and he stands for a $6,600 (inc gst) fee.

Burn Notice looks a bargain for Optima Racing after graduating from the Magic Millions QTIS Sale for $28,000 in March.
