First winner by Master of Design

Swettenham Stud’s Master Of Design opened his first-crop account with speedy front-runner Deal Master at Pakenham on Friday.

Deal Master beat the bias against the fence to score an impressive debut win in the Visit Club Officer Plate (1000m).  He races for a Team Corstens syndicate after being sold by Swettenham (as agent) for $90,000 at the 2015 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.

“I give him credit for that win because it was much better than it looked,” jockey Danny Moor explained.  “I was cursing the way the race panned out.  I’ve been working him off the speed at home but we landed in front on the rails.

“I got him to relax and he gave a good kick in the straight.  I was waiting for the others to come late and blouse us out but he was real strong on the line.”

Deal Master was bred by Euan & Jenny White and is the first foal of their Wangaratta winner Pimento (Royal Academy).  She’s from a half-sister to Chattanooga who won 14 races up to Listed level at Caulfield.

The Whites sold Pimento for $5,800 to Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA) at the Inglis Great Southern Sale in June.  She changed hands in foal to Master Of Design off a November cover last year.

Master Of Design (Redoute’s Choice) started his stud career with Flemington stakes performers Creativity & Kinetic Design and his second crop averaged $75,000 at the Melbourne Premier yearling sale in March.

A Group 1 winner of the T J Smith (1200m) at Randwick in a time only bettered by Black Caviar, he has averaged 120 mares a year since retiring to Swettenham at a $15,000 (inc gst) service fee.
