Berkeley Stud’s Melbourne Group 2 winner Highly Recommended sired his first winner at Tauherenikau on Thursday.
The Andrew Campbell-trained Waldorf drew away to score by more than a length in the NZB Insurance 2YO Pearl Series (1000m). “He sat wide and still won nicely,” Campbell said. “It was a good effort and we will aim for the Karaka Million.”
Waldorf was offered by Berkley Stud at this year’s NZB Select yearling sale at Karaka where Campbell bought him for $30,000. The colt is raced by an ownership group managed by successful stable client Tommy Heptinstall.
A son of Fastnet Rock, Highly Recommended was trained by Peter Moody to win the G2 Alister Clark Stakes at Moonee Valley. His dam Suggestive (Al Hareb) has also foaled the stakes winners Sky Cuddle (G1 VRC Emirates Stakes), Sky Love (G3 SAJC Christmas Hcp), Undeniably (LR MRC Christmas Stakes) and Malaysian Listed winner Hint.
Highly Recommended stands for a fee of $4,000 at Berkley Stud which is located in the South Island at Canterbury.
