First-starter Miss Liffey gave Al Aseel a winning start to his stud career at Canberra on Sunday.
Trained locally by Trevor McIlrick, she settled on the pace before lengthening for a two-length victory in the Seears Workwear Maiden Plate (1000m).
Miss Liffey (2f Al Aseel – City Liffey by Citidancer) is a younger half-sister to LR Black Opal Stakes winner Sarthemare. She was bred by Tony Hartnell who stands her sire at Meringo Stud.
Al Aseel was conceived in Kentucky by Taylor Made stallion Forestry (Storm Cat) from Australian mare Shamekha who was exported after winning the G1 Coolmore Classic, G1 All-Aged Stakes and G1 T J Smith Stakes.
Shamekha returned home in foal to Forestry and Al Aseel went on to win a Hawkesbury maiden in August 2010. He stands for a $1,100 (inc gst) fee at Meringo Stud in Moruya.
