First hit for Henny Hughes

Darley shuttler Henny Hughes was represented by his first winner on Wednesday when Dalamar scored a two length victory at Delaware Park.

Dalamar is trained by Bret Calhoun for owner-breeders Gulf Coast Farms and he scored second time out running 1000m in 59.20s.  The chestnut colt jumped straight to the front and went wire-to-wire

Dalamar (2c  Henny Hughes – Dutchess Mojo by Deputy Minister) is out of an unraced half-sister to the Storm Cat stakes performers Where’s That Tiger (UAE) and One Great Cat (Ireland).

Second dam Blissful (Mr. Prospector) is a full sister to 2000 Kentucky Derby winner and sire Fusaichi Pegasus.

Henny Hughes started his career with a six length romp at Monmouth Park.  On the strength of that stellar debut, trainer Kiaran McLaughlin stepped the colt up to Listed level in the Tremont Stakes and he responded with a 15 length runaway at Belmont Park.

Purchased privately by Darley following the Tremont Stakes, he followed up with a near four length victory in the G2 Special Stakes at Saratoga.

Henny Hughes suffered his first setback when second in the G1 Hopeful Stakes  and rounded out his two-year-old campaign by filling that same spot in the G1 Champagne Stakes and G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.  He appeared to have a winning lead in the BC Juvenile but was run down by Stevie Wonderboy.

Henny Hughes launched his three year-olds season with a 10 length victory in the G3 Jersey Shore Stakes at Monmouth Park and followed up with front-running victories in the G1 King’s Bishop Stakes and G1 Vosburgh Stakes.

Henny Highes bowed out of racing with his sole unplaced run in 10 career starts.  After suffering repeated checks and a lack of running room, he finish last in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint.

Henny Hughes (Hennessy) stands for a $25,000 fee at Darley Lexington and he shuttles to Kelvinside in NSW for $19,250 a cover.

He has 100 2YOs in his first Kentucky crop and there were 86 foals from his first southern crop born last year.  Five of those foals averaged $47,000 at the 2010 Magic Millions National weanling sale.
