First for Danehill sire at Stawell

Apologia is the latest sire son of Danehill to be represented by a winner.  His first-crop mare Winter Solace broke through in the Northern Grampians Council Maiden (1100m) at Stawell on Saturday.

Winter Solace (4m Apologia – Reminded by Desert Style) was very impressive on debut.  She claimed tearaway leader Even Da Squaw on the corner and then cleared out to defeat odds-on favourite Southern Alliance by five lengths.

Winter Solace is trained by Peter Jaques for part-owner and breeder Mick Kyprios and she is from the immediate family of Steely Dan (G1 NZ 2000 Guineas) and Prince Standaan (G2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup).

Kyprios retired Apologia to stud on the Bellarine Peninsula after a career that saw him win a Wingatui maiden in 10 starts divided between Australia and New Zealand.

Apologia is by Danehill from NZ Group 1 winning mare Foxwood.  He stands for a $1,100 (inc gst) service fee.
