First for Akeed Mofeed

Heart Conquered has notched the first win for Goldin Farms resident Akeed Mofeed (GB) in Adelaide.

The Team Hawkes trained 2yo colt settled in the forward division and fought off Frazier (Casino Prince) for a three-quarter length victory in the Holdfast Insurance Hcp (1000m).  La Vita, another member of Akeed Mofeed’s first-crop, was a further half-length away in third place at Morphettville.

Heart Conquered had been fourth on debut in October.  “I rode him first-up and he was very green,” Todd Pannell said.  “He relaxed today and very professional.  He’s going the right way.”

The winner is a Goldin Farms homebred from Brisbane winner Heart To Fear (Show A Heart).  The dam was a $110,000 buy from Yarraman Park at the 2014 Inglis Sydney Broodmare Sale.  She has a Akeed Mofeed filly on the ground and was bred back to Zoustar in November.

Akeed Mofeed (Dubawi) was a Group 1 winner of the 2013 Hong Kong Derby and Hong Kong Cup.  He had been Group 2 placed in Ireland for owner Jaber Abdullah before transferring for a reported sale price of HK$14.5 million.

He earned HK$27 million under trainer Richard Gibson and was being set for the G1 Arlington Million when a tendon injury curtailed his career in April 2014.

Akeed Mofeed has 60 foals in his first crop and there are 3 yearlings from his second crop catalogued for the Adelaide Magic Million starting on Tuesday.
