First Equiano foals at Great Southern Sale

The first Australian-bred foals by Swettenham Stud sire Equiano have been catalogued for the Inglis Great Southern Sale at Oaklands Junction.

Equiano (Fr) covered 90 mares in his first season at the Nagambie nursery and he has three colts and four fillies entered for the weanling section of the sale on May 21 and 22.

Swettenham has three of the seven going under the hammer starting with Lot 45, an October 10 colt from Tintoretto (Commands).  The mare won at Warwick Farm and she is a half-sister to G2 AJC Expressway Stakes winner Hockney.

Tintoretto is the dam of Perth winner Venetian Prince (Ad Valorem).  He finished fourth in last season’s G3 Lee-Steere Classic and can update the pedigree with another victory in the Westspeed Hcp at Belmont this Saturday.

Lot 112 is an August 30 colt from Adam Sangster’s Stravinsky mare Circus Polka.  She is a winning half-sister to G3 winners Matras (Zabeel) and Romantic Moon (More Than Ready).  Second dam Tropical Affair (Danehill) was a Listed winner of the VRC Maribyrnong Trial at Flemington.

Lot 273 is an early August 11 filly foal from Plus Jamais.  The dam is a Redoute’s Choice daughter of Group 1 Saratoga mare Nevermore (Unbridled).

The first English bred foals by Equiano were in demand last year.  At Goffs, they sold to 90,000 euros (AUD 111,120) and at Tattersalls, leading agent Peter Doyle bought three headed a colt that made 70,000 guineas (AUD 112,525).

Equiano (Acclamation) was a dual winner of the G1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and his Swettenham service fee remains unchanged at $16,500 (inc gst) this year.
