First Australian winner by Pembroke

Pembroke (USA) broke through for his first winner in Australia on Saturday.  The Gus Philpot trained gelding Go Sai scored by a length in the Propest QTIS Maiden Hcp (1075m) at Thangool.

Go Sai (2g Pembroke – Another Promise by Luskin Star) started a $2.50 favourite after a promising run when fresh at Yeppoon earlier this month.  He is a homebred for the Lynch family and collected $7,500 in prizemoney and QTIS bonuses.

His dam Another Promise won at Doomben and her two previous winners – Promising Joy (Ignatius) and Tiny Too (Frisco View) – won a combined 26 races.

Rossvale Stud owner Les Smith imported Pembroke (Gone West) to Queensland in 2006.  He made a further move to Merlo Downs in 2010.

Pembroke created a world record for 1100 metres on turf when winning the Budweiser Breeders Cup at Hollywood Park in 60.20 seconds.  He covered 10 books in North America and had sired 203 winners at a 68% strike-rate before opening his account in Australia.
