Changeintheweather (USA) sired his first Australian winner at Townsville on Tuesday.
Cyclone Kan scored a resounding victory in the Magic Millions QTIS Sale Maiden Hcp (1000m) at Cluden Park, finishing the last 600m in 34.69s on a Dead 5 surface.
Trained by Lyle Wright at Mackay, Cyclone Kan jumped fast from the barrier and drew away to score by more than three lengths. He had impressed connections early on, winning a jump out against experienced horses by 30 lengths, and his greenness in the straight suggests he’s just learning.
Cyclone Kan (2g Changeintheweather – Aleysa Kan by Kanoot) is the third Australian runner for his sire who stands at Merlo Downs in the Brisbane Valley.
Changeintheweather (Gone West) was a Group 1 winner of the Grey Breeders 2yo Cup at Woodbine. He was imported here by Merlo Downs owners Jeff and Lea Marlow in 2010 after being crowned Champion USA Mid-Atlantic first-season sire with 11 winners from 22 starters.
He covered a book of 82 mares in his first Australian stud season and stands for a $5,500 fee.
