Ozi Choice completed a hat-trick for FBAA members at Morphettville on Saturday after stealing a march on his rivals in the Holdfast Insurance Hcp (1400m).
Apprentice Justin Huxtable employed tearaway tactics to establish a five-length lead on the home-turn and favourite punters headed for the queue with the race well and truly won at the furlong.
“He grabbed the bit and towed me along,” Huxable said after bringing the Victorian visitor back to scale. “He was on a seven-day back-up and fitness wasn’t an issue. I struggled to pull him up after the post!”
Ozi Choice (Denman) has credits at Flemington and Caulfield among an overall record of 6 wins for prizemoney of $272,500. He’s a half-brother to Adelaide stakes winner Crying Storm and was a $140,000 buy for Tony Cavanagh (FBAA) at the 2014 Gold Coast Magic Millions acting on behalf of owner Alfred Gauci.
Gauci is a Director of Melbourne-based company Australia’s First Choice whose products include the Ozi Choice range of Milk Powders.
Made In Russia (pictured) kicked off the FBAA treble in the Pridal Services Plate (1300m). He’s a progressive horse looking to go up in distance for China Horse Club and trainer Tony McEvoy.
“He relaxed off a slow tempo and is learning all the time. He would have been all over heels before now,” jockey Jamie Kah claimed.
“The way he quickened along the rails impressed me because it was hard to make up ground on the Parks circuit.”
Made In Russia (Street Cry) is a younger half-brother to last-start Yarra Valley winner Millie the Missile (Smart Missile). He cost DGR agent Duncan Ramage (FBAA) $225,000 from Vinery at the 2016 Inglis Sydney Easter Yearling Sale.
Their dam Millie Milou (Zabeel) has a Myboycharlie filly (Lot 778) entered by Vinery for the Inglis Classic Sale in February.
Randwick Bloodstock’s Brett Howard snatched the second-leg for FBAA with Sudden Wealth in the Horsman’s Plumbing & Gas Hcp (1250m). The Time Thief mare has won both her starts since returning from a spell although she left it late on Saturday.
“She was off the bridle and had to do it the tough way,” jockey Todd Pannell said. “She got well back but let down to get there in the last stride.”
Sudden Wealth was placed with Will Clarken after changing hands for $28,000 at the Inglis Sydney Broodmare Sale in April. A Kembla Grange maiden winner for clients of Paul Murray, she was purchased by Howard in association with Rushton Park’s David & Kayley Johnson.
“Will is going to nominate her for a stakes race next start,” Pannell added. “This is her best prep and she deserves a crack.”
The LR City Of Marion Stakes (1200m) next Saturday and LR Christmas Hcp (1200m) on Boxing Day are black-type options for her connections at Morphettville.
