Face Value sires first Group winner

Silent Surround became the first stakes winner for Lindsay Park sire Face Value when she upstaged Imacruiser in the G3 SAJC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

Prepared at Oakbank in the Adelaide Hills by Bill Smart, Silent Surround made strong ground on the inside of the favourite to score narrowly.

Face Value, a stakes winning son of Red Ransom, got the winner from city winning Rory’s Jester mare Biography.  The dam is a half sister to Group winner Station Hand.

One of the first on hand to congratulation Smart and his family was Lindsay Park studmaster Sam Hayes.

“She was originally purchased as a yearling by Mark Minervini,” Smart commented.  “But then Mark retired and the owner asked me if I could take her.  Luckily I took a share in her as well.”

Silent Surround showed a great deal of ability in her first two runs but she can be a handful.  “Her mother and half sister were a bit fizzy as well,” Smart said.  “Stewards gave us permission for her to wear pacifiers on the way to the barriers and they’re removed when she’s loaded in the stalls.”

Silent Surround was purchased for just $38,000 at the Adelaide Magic Millions from the draft of Lindsay Park Stud.

Face Value stands at the famous Angaston property alongside Barely a Moment and newcomer Reaan.
