Fabulous November maintained the winning run of (NZ) gallopers in Hong Kong with a narrow victory in the Griffin Trophy (1400m) on Sunday.
The Pins gelding was one of five winners at the Sha Tin meeting. His victory was the most valuable with prizemoney the equivalent of NZ$300,000.
Fabulous November (3g Pins – Glitzy by O’Reilly) was a $300,000 buy for the HKJC from Waikato Stud at the 2011 NZB Karaka Premier Sale. He was resold at the Hong Kong International Sale last season and is one of the first graduates from that auction to make an impact in his new home.
The Richard Gibson-trained gelding established a winning lead at the top of the straight and held on to defeat odds-on favourite Happy Era by a short-head. “This was our target for a long time and he will go for a nice break now,” Gibson said. “He’s done a good job and will get over more ground in time.”
Champion sire Pins got him from LR Rotorua Stakes winner Glitzy. All three of her foals to race are winners and her latest Pins filly was a $100,000 buy for Bjorn Baker at the 2012 NZB Premier Sale.
The (NZ) haul at Sha Tin began with Telecom Top Star (O’Reilly) and continued with Jun Dao (Rusty Spur), Real General (King’s Chapel) and Maroon Prince (Falkirk).
