Exceed And Excel sires Sydney 2YO Triple Crown

Exceed And Excel filly Guelph has given her sire a clean sweep of Sydney’s 2YO Triple Crown with a thrilling last-stride win in the G1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

The win gave Guelph back-to-back G1 wins after she claimed the Sires’ Produce Stakes two weeks ago.  Darley sire Exceed And Excel also claimed the G1 Golden Slipper with Overreach.

Guelph (2f Exceed And Excel – Camarilla by Elusive Quality) became the first filly in a decade to claim the Sires’ Produce-Champagne Stakes double.  A homebred for Darley, she is the second foal of G1 winner Camarilla, a daughter of G1 Queensland Derby winner Camarena, a sister to Watchful, the dam of four-time G1 winner and Darley stallion Sepoy.

Camarilla unfortunately died last year, however, her colt foal by Street Cry survived and she also has a yearling colt by Shamardal.

Exceed And Excel (Danehill) will stand the coming season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 (inc gst).  He leads the Australian general sires list with $9.87 million, well ahead of Fastnet Rock on $8.67 million.

The Darley sire is already over the line for the Australian 2YO title with earnings of $5.14 million.  Glenlogan Park freshman Real Saga is next best with $1.45 million.
