Exceed And Excel sires second feature winner in USA

Exceed And Excel sired his second feature USA winner when Mrs Kipling win the G3 Senorita Stakes (1600m) at Hollywood Park on Sunday.

Mrs Kipling (Ire) began her career in England winning her maiden in a Lingfield.  She earned black-type for the first time when a Listed winner of the Premio Divino Amore in Rome and added a G3 placing in the Cornwallis Stakes at Ascot.

She was subsequently purchased by celebrity chef Bobby Flay and is now trained by Neil Drysdale in California.

Mrs Kipling (3f Exceed And Excel – Quinzey by Carnegie) had been a good thing beaten first-up in the US when second to Acting Lady in the G2 Providencia Stakes and made no mistake last weekend with an emphatic 2.5 length victory.

“She relaxed and switched off for David (Flores),” Drysdale said.  “I don’t see any problem with her going 1800m or even 2000m.”

Drysdale will set the Exceed And Excel filly for the $150,000 Honeymoon Handicap (1800m) on May 31 and the $750,000 American Oaks (2000m) on July 5.

Mrs Kipling is from the Carnegie mare Quinzey whose second dam is Squan Song (Exceller).  She won a G3 among 14 career wins.

Darley sire Exceed And Excel has several Irish bred stock that have been sold to North America.  His first US stakes winner was Flashman’s Papers who won the Listed Eddie Logan Stakes at Santa Anita in December.
