An Exceed And Excel Magic Millions graduate topped the Hong Kong International Sale at Sha Tin on Saturday.
A bid of HK$6.20 million (AUD 767,200) clinched the sale for Yip Kong Wah who was seated alongside trainer Danny Shum. He originally cost $350,000 out of the Strawberry Hill draft at the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions.
The Exceed And Excel – Mirror Mirror (Dehere) gelding is a three-quarter brother to LR Carrington Stakes winner No Looking Back (Redoute’s Choice). She lost the 2012 Magic Millions 2YO Classic on protest and was then runner-up in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes.
A total of 16 lots sold for an aggregate of HK$47.50 million (AUD 5.87 million). “It was a good sale and there were a lot of good choices for owners,” Director of Racing William Nader said. “It was about what we expected given that season 2012-13 has been more of a buyers’ market.
“The Club has lost money on the Sale but that’s okay. In some previous seasons we’ve made money but the overriding aim and hope is that these horses can go on and have productive racing careers in Hong Kong.”
